Submission to the Fashion Trend Forecast 2011 Essay Contest by Tatyana Dyagileva dated 2/14/11.

Strained by the recession and with need for change in the September 2010 fashion week unanimously designer set the white tone. It was the whitest fashion week ever. Color of purity and innocence, needless to mention Lindsay Lohan not-guilty plea and fashion statement in court wearing white mini, I believe WHITES would be the trendiest color this spring and summer: white clothe, white accessories, which further would be definitely translated into a home décor.

Bright bold colors would be another memorable trend to highlight whites. Bright pink, yellow, and turquoise; belts, shoes, bags. What can be better that statement accessory in a statement color!

The coquet polka dot would pop up here and there. Few moth ago in anticipation of upraise of this trend I stock my closet up with dotted gloves, scarves skirts and other pieces; favorably Michelle Obama's appearance on Today Show in H&M black and white polka dot dress would definitely validate it's necessity and make it a must have element this year.

Fueled by the desire for change and raise of patriotic enthusiasm, as well as a Democrats loosing their ground in the congress and Republicans taking popularity stand in this year pre-election race, we should see plenty of REDS. Shall we not forget the controversial Alexander McQueen dress worn by Michelle Obama on the State Dinner honoring Chinese president. Regardless if it was approved or disapproved by most of the fashion critics, for as long as it is talked about it's worn about. Without doubt it would be trendiest color of fall 2011.

After years of black and brown reign we see GREYS came as a needed replacement. Its fresh, elegant and very easy color to incorporate into wardrobe, as well as it's a great hue to accommodate layering technique.

Layering trend that comfortably settled in fall last year would stay with us for quite some time. It will evolve into more elegant attitude. Turtleneck sweaters would be a massive element for the Fall 2011. They are a great foundation to carry out light and airy layers of silk and chiffon, which quite an unordinary choice of fabrics for a cold fall and winter season.

Minis that not everyone can pull up would be pushed by more forgiving longer skirts and maxis.

Pants another must have item: from ultra wide leg to well fitted pencil everyone will find their best match.

Sequin still hold strong ground, but I see its transformation into smaller more detailed and elegant manipulation for embellishments as we go into Fall 2011. It would be more with minimalist essence.

Laces would definitely be a landmark this seasons both spring and fall 2011, from simple decorative trimming elements to a more demanding full scaled approach.

Fur always stand for ultimate glamour, but strong PETA voice pressured designers to restrain from its use. And even though new technologies in textile production brought up the quality of faux fur, nevertheless nothing can compete with the luxuries nature of à la natural. So, for Fall 2011 some of designers going with the small amount of wrongness approach - minimal use of fur; Fur sleeves on coats, jackets, cardigans, sweaters; Fur collars; Fur trimming and embroideries. I expect that will be evolved into a major trend.

In general this year tone down for simplicity based on minimalism with a play of fabric's texture, straighter lines and silhouette flavored by 70th.
