In addition to Scarborough, two other Avery Dennison executives, James Stafford, head of RFID adoption, and Rick Bauer, director of product management, will participate in the presentation. The presentation will take place on August 13, beginning at 1:30 p.m.. The show will take place August 13 & 14, Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. Avery Dennison is the show’s Cornerstone Sponsor.
Avery Dennison is the apparel industry’s leading supplier of RFID technology and currently provides 90% of RFID tags used in the apparel fashion retail environment. During the two-day conference, brand owners and retailers of apparel and footwear will be able to engage in item-level RFID demonstrations and meet with top Avery Dennison executives to discuss their RFID labeling needs at Exhibit Booth # 3, John E. Reeves Great Hall.
The Leadership Forum presentation will address how apparel producers can start small with minimum RFID investment and rapidly achieve a return on investment.
In addition, the speakers will cover total RFID solutions, implementations and ROI, and provide an overview of Avery Dennison’s global infrastructure and network of partnerships with expert RFID vendors. Partnerships with companies such as Vue Technology and Motorola enable Avery Dennison to deliver total RFID solutions and help customers gain a competitive advantage during these challenging trading times. The presentation will include summaries of RFID case studies that focus on active programs of retailers and brand owners across the globe.
Dedicated talks titled “The Retail Business Case for RFID” and “Practical Implementation Issues” will be of particular interest to persons seeking information on RFID investment and tips on RFID program start-up.
During the evening of August 13, Avery Dennison will host an invitation-only cocktail reception in partnership with Vue Technology and Motorola at a separate venue, 230 Fifth, located at 230 Fifth Ave., NYC.
The Avery Dennison Demo-Pod
Throughout the two-day RFID in Fashion 2008 event, Avery Dennison will host visitors to Booth # 3 with product demonstrations and discussions covering nearly any aspect of RFID in apparel/retail.
“Visitors are invited to experience our mini-store Demo-Pod,” says Mark Thomas, Avery Dennison’s RFID marketing manager, Americas. “The Demo-Pod, which employs hardware and software from Vue Technology, is a kiosk-like structure that permits users to engage in virtually every key aspect of item-level RFID. In addition, our specialists will be on hand to explain Avery Dennison’s Item-level RFID ROI Analysis Program and to discuss successful item-level programs in place at major retailers, including Marks & Spencer, American Apparel and Throttleman.”
Thomas notes that ROI is a major concern of many companies that are considering item-level RFID. “More and more retailers are starting to seriously look at it, and the central issue is nearly always ROI,” he says. “Businesses ask, ‘If we are going to spend money on item-level RFID, what will we really get out of it?’ At RFID in Fashion 2008, Avery Dennison spokespersons will provide booth visitors with quantitative results from live programs, and explain how item-level RFID has been shown to increase sales, better utilize human resources and reduce shrink.”
Avery Dennison’s Demo Pod is outfitted with shelving and hanging racks that simulate a retail store’s floor environment and back room. The module demonstrates how an RFID infrastructure, consisting of RFID networking hardware, shelves equipped with RFID antennas, a handheld reader, and RFID management software can continually monitor RFID-tagged apparel and footwear in a retail store. The technology helps to ensure that the right product is available in the right location when customers come to buy.
Garments on Demo Pod shelves are outfitted with product identification that reflects Avery Dennison’s broad ranging production capabilities. Items include woven labels, size stickers, leather patches and joker labels.
In operation, the Demo Pod’s item-level RFID infrastructure reads the “store’s” item-level inventory to capture product counts and locations in real time. When the counts and locations are compared with a plan-o-gram, replenishment processes are dramatically improved and on-floor availability is maximized.
