What is High End Fashion?

Before I dare attempt to figure out how to explain this term, maybe we should first determine how to write the word.  Is their supposed to be a hyphen between the word "high" and "end"?  After several years of research, I have come to the conclusion that some people write the word "High End" and others write the word "High-End".  For the sake of not offending anyone, I will use either or both versions in this article.  I hope you do not mind.  Anyway, lets get back to the original question.  What is high-end fashion?

In my opinion, high-end fashion is clothing that is simply "expensive" clothing.

When thinking of high-end fashion, one would typically envision garments draped across slender models cascading down the catwalk.  Clothing that you see at fashion week would certainly be considered as high-end fashion.  It is the caliber of garments that you will find among the ritzy fashion boutiques in New York, Milan, and Paris.

For the most part, high end fashion consists of garments designed by the world famous fashion designers.  Although most luxury fashions are from the popular fashion designers, it is only fair to state that being popular or rich is not a requirement.  We often jump to the conclusion that luxury clothing must come from famous designers.  However, fashion designers that are "not yet" famous are equally qualified and capable of designing, manufacturing, and selling well made and expensive clothing.

If high-end fashion is simply expensive garments designed by fashion designers and produced with luxury fabrics, what is the difference between "high-end" fashion and "luxury" fashion?  Well, that is a good question for which I unfortunately do not know the answer.  Between you and I, possibly the terms luxury and high-end are interchangeable...

Can you guess who wears the expensive clothing that would be considered a luxury?  Yes, you are correct.  They would be the rich and famous...  As we would like to call them here at Apparel Search, they are the fashion celebrities.  These are the people that go thru designer fashion and jewelry as if these things are free.  Well, actually many of the fashion celebrities get free product at the runway shows and from publicists.  Therefore, some of what they have truly is free.

For another take on this concept (possibly a better & more complete explanation), we suggest you visit the high fashion term page.
