Mr. Bill Lampl has been named President of Esprit Apparel, a division of the San Francisco-based Esprit de Corp., effective October 1, 2001. In addition to his new position, Mr. Lampl will continue to be responsible for licensing Esprit brands. "We are very pleased with Bill's appointment as President of Esprit Apparel. His strong performance in guiding our company's licensing business and his knowledge of the apparel category make him extremely well-suited to take on his new role responsibilities," said Mr. Joseph E. Heid, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Esprit. As President of Esprit Brands Licensing, Mr. Lampl has managed Esprit's domestic licensing business with responsibility for overseeing daily operations and developing and executing creative marketing programs for all of Esprit's domestic retailers and licensees. He previously served as president of Esprit's Dr. Seuss Division where he managed sales, production, design and marketing. He joined Esprit in 1994 as Vice President of their Dr. Seuss Division. Mr. Lampl succeeds Ms. Cathy Volker as Esprit Apparel's President. Ms. Volker is leaving to begin a new business venture which, in part, will be in the legwear category. She plans to announce more details regarding this venture in the near future. Ms. Volker will transition with Mr. Lampl through the end of September 2001 as he assumes his added senior executive responsibilities. "Cathy helped guide us through a challenging transition from being primarily a juniors fashion retailer to a young woman's contemporary fashion resource. I very much appreciate her support during this period. I've known Cathy for many years and wish her every success in all of her future pursuits," Mr. Heid said. Headquartered in San Francisco and founded in 1968, Esprit has developed into a worldwide organization with operations on five continents. Esprit designs, produces and distributes a wide variety of products including women's sportswear, children's apparel, footwear, accessories and an assortment of Dr. Seuss merchandise. Esprit also offers an array of licensed products that complement the Esprit lifestyle including swimwear, sleepwear, loungewear, daywear, outerwear, eyewear, time wear, and bath, bed and home products. The Esprit brand is sold in 44 countries and is available in department stores, specialty stores and more than 520 Esprit owned and operated retail stores worldwide.
