Manhattan-based maternity fashion innovator Mommy Chic has announced the imminent launch of a free-for-all competition to find the expectant woman who best represents the concept of "Mommy Chic-est" for 2001. The contest will serve as the kick-off for a series of public fashion shows entitled "Chic-est Moms" to take place at various locations in New York City. The "Mommy Chic-est" winner will be a featured model in the first of the "Chic-est Mom" fashion shows (details below.) The contest is slated to begin on Labor Day, September 3rd, and run through September 15th, with the winner to be announced on September 17th. The winner will receive a complete wardrobe of the Mommy Chic-wear of her choice valued at $2000. In addition to fashions, the winner will be pampered with a prenatal massage and mother-to-be facial at The Mezzanine Spa and a yoga class from Haelth, a new complementary health center in Soho. More prizes are being added everyday.

The first show is scheduled to take place Thursday, September 20th at Historic South Street Seaport from 12:15 to 1:30. Spectators at the shows will be treated to Mommy Chic's private label bottled water, buttons, shopping bags and other giveaways, as well as be the first to see the latest Mommy Chic fashions including supple cashmere sweaters and soft leather pants. Designer Angela Chew opened her first maternity boutique in Nolita at 235 Mulberry Street to present her line of clothing, which provides a new attitude and a fresh new look for expectant moms who don't want to give up great style at the most exciting time of their lives. Ms. Chew's fashions have been variously described as flirty, sensual and ultra-feminine. Her current plan to raise awareness of the store and the line is to develop a series of fashion shows that will turn up in the most unusual places around Manhattan-all designed to show people just how beautiful expectant women can be at their most special time.
