Industry (212), formerly known as femme, is living up to its new name. In fact, the show is shaping up to be a reflection of the city itself – it’s big, diverse and is always on the leading edge.

“New York City is a wonderful wellspring of inspiration for the Industry (212) show,” says Marilyn Harrington, General Manager of Advanstar Communications’ East Coast Fashion Group. “We can pull from the best that the city has to offer in order to create an environment not only conducive to business but also one that is open to fresh, new ideas.”

Industry (212) is the largest and most comprehensive apparel and accessories trade show in New York City, connecting more than 7,000 retailers from over 50 countries around the world with over 600 manufacturers representing more than 3,000 lines. Already known as a “one-stop shop” for everything and anything in fashion apparel and accessories, Industry (212)’s broad array of categories allows buyers to mix and match to add flair to their retail mix. With these categories to choose from: Accessories, Casual Lifestyle/Better, Junior, Junior Accessories, Streetwear, Young Contemporary/Contemporary, for example, a feminine skirt from the Better section can be paired with an edgy message T from Streetwear for an updated Resort look. Retailers also know that they can find fashions at Industry (212) that they simply can’t find at any other show in New York during market week. No wonder, so many attendees say, “Industry (212) is the show to discover new resources.”

The upcoming show, which will be held during the height of the New York holiday/resort market week, and runs from September 29th through October 1st, offers attendees everything for holiday, resort, immediate and Spring 2004 fashion buying needs.

Many of the new special events at the next Industry (212) show have one thing in common: they bring together the city’s most talented experts in their respective fields. Mercedes Gonzalez, Director, The Global Purchasing Group and noted retail industry guru, is hosting a Retail Tour of NoLIta, which takes place on Sunday, September 28th. The tour takes show attendees through NoLIta (North of Little Italy) to see some of the city’s hottest boutiques that are frequently featured in notable fashion publications such as Lucky magazine. Stops include Calypso, Tracy Feith, Shoe, Paul Frank, Objets Du Desir and Scoop. Along the way, tour attendees will gain inspiration and an insider’s understanding of the fast-paced world of retailing in New York City. Registration is $59.00 and includes a MetroCard Fun Pass, lunch at a New York hot spot and a mid-day snack at Rice to Riches, a rice pudding emporium.

Along with the signature free seminar series, Industry (212) is proud to announce that David Wolfe, Creative Director, The Doneger Group will provide the keynote presentation, “Style in a Changing World,” on Tuesday, September 30th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. Wolfe, who is also known as “America’s Foremost Fashion Forecaster,” will examine how today’s accelerated change cycle affects trends, color, textiles, marketing and all aspects of lifestyle. The Doneger Group, headquartered in New York City, is the largest independent resident buying office and fashion merchandising consulting firm in the industry.

Since New York City is also the fashion publishing capital of the country, it comes as no surprise that Industry (212) will have top editors from leading fashion trade and consumer magazines be guest judges at this season’s edition of the Profile Awards. Always in search of the next best thing, this elite panel of editors will lend their expert eyes to find the innovators in ten design categories among the hundreds of exhibiting companies. This highly anticipated event takes place on Monday, September 29th. Winners will receive an engraved award and their booth will be festooned with a large ribbon so they will be easily recognized by on the show floor.

Another new event at the show that is sure to excite attendees is the Industry (212) Rome Adventure Sweepstakes. During the three-day event, authorized retailers will have the chance to become eligible to enter the sweepstakes that includes roundtrip airfare and a five-night stay at the 5-star Hotel Eden in Rome, Italy. To be eligible to enter, authorized retailers will receive a special “Passport” at registration, which must be stamped at all 20 designated “Passport Stations” on the show floor. The Passport Stations are participating exhibitor booths. After all the entries are received, Show Management will conduct a random drawing to determine the lucky winner.

Also new to the Show and not-to-be-missed for holiday and resort buying needs, is the new Artworks Design Studio. Here buyers will find handcrafted wearable designs in apparel and accessories from a wide variety of exhibitors showcased in a special pavilion.
