Welcome to the worlds greatest guide to Men's Fleece Sweatshirts.  Are you actually looking for Men's Fleece Sweatshirts?  Well, we hope you are because the reality is that you have found our Men's Fleece Sweatshirts page.  In this area of the Apparel Search directory, you will find all sorts of interesting information regarding sweatshirts made of fleece material for men.

Sweatshirts are arguably a type of sweater, but they are made of a fabric and cut similar to sweatpants. A sweatshirt worn with sweatpants forms a sweatsuit which was originally a kind of exercise clothing.  The garment is generally fashioned out of a thick, usually cotton jersey material, but can also be made with lighter weight fabrics.  Sweatshirts can be a pullover or zipper front.  They are sold in solid colors, multi color (such as tie die, etc.) and with graphics.  Sweatshirts can be embellished with printing, embroidery, and other types of embellishing methods. A popular design would be printing a college or university name or logo onto the garment.  You can learn more about college sweatshirts as well as sweatshirts in general in our new fashion influence section.

Fleece may refer to: A woollen coat of a domestic sheep or long-haired goat, especially after being sheared (but before being processed into yarn or thread).  Polar fleece, a type of polyester fabric. Polar fleece is a soft napped insulating fabric made from a type of polyester called polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or other synthetic fibers. Other names for this fabric are "Polar Wool," "Vega Wool," or "Velo Wools." Despite names suggesting the product is made of natural material, polar fleece is 100% polyethylene terephthalate.

A lightweight, warm, and soft fabric, fleece has some of wool's good qualities but weighs a fraction of the lightest available woolens. Polar fleece garments traditionally come in different thicknesses: micro, 100, 200, and 300, with 300 being the thickest and least flexible. It is hydrophobic, holding less than 1% of its weight in water. It retains much of its insulating powers even when wet. It is machine washable and dries quickly. It is a good alternative to wool (of particular importance to those who are allergic or sensitive to wool, and to vegans). It can also be made out of recycled PET bottles, or even recycled fleece. Despite its fuzzy appearance and feel, it is not flammable, but instead melts when exposed to flame.

There are disadvantages to fleece fabric as well. Its hydrophobic quality means it doesn't allow sweat to move through the fabric to evaporate during strenuous activity. Regular polar fleece is not windproof and does not absorb moisture (although this is often seen as a benefit, per above).   Fleece readily generates static electricity, which causes the accumulation of lint, dust, and pet hair. It is also susceptible to damage from high temperature washing, tumble drying or ironing. Lower-quality polar fleece material is also prone to pilling.

When discussing sweatshirts it would be silly not to mention hoodies.  Yes, they are simply a sweatshirt with a hood, but they are an important garment for many peoples wardrobe.  Specially for the younger generations.  Learn more about hoodies.

Note: "polar fleece" is a copyrighted term that is often misused to describe medium weight fleece.  Micro fleece is generally softer than polar fleece. There is a right and wrong side to most micro-fleece fabrics.  One side has an amazingly soft feel.  It is thinner than medium weight fleece.
