Welcome to the worlds greatest guide to men's slip-on dress shoes.  Are you actually looking for men's slip-on footwear?  Well, we hope you are because the reality is that you have found our men's slip-on dress Shoes page.  In this area of the Apparel Search directory, you will find all sorts of interesting information regarding men's dress shoes that slip on with no laces.

A dress shoe is a shoe to be worn for business.  Often with dress pants such as slacks or with a suit.  When worn with dress pants, this outfit is often paired with a sports coat or blazer as well.  Dress shoes are worn with smart casual attire or more formal events. A dress shoe is typically contrasted to an athletic shoe which would be for a more casual situation.

Slip-ons are typically low, lace-less shoes. In other words, slip-on shoes have no shoe laces.  The style most commonly seen, known as a loafer or slippers in American culture, has a moccasin construction.

Loafers, or slip-ons, come in both men's and women's styles. It is not unusual for a man's loafer to have a tassel, although this can be seen in women's varieties too. Loafers were originally men's shoes, and are usually thought of as such, although women do now wear them.

A monk shoe (also called a monkstrap) has no lacing, and is closed by a strap with a buckle. Monk shoes are typically regarded as less formal; they are often considered appropriate for business formal, but rarely appropriate with any kind of formal attire.

What is the difference between Oxfords and Loafers?  This is a bit tricky because some people and some retailers use the words Oxford and Loafer interchangeably.  However, the Oxford definition talks about the lacing and eyelets as being an important aspect of the design.  An Oxford shoe is generally characterized by shoelace eyelets tabs that are attached under the vamp, a feature termed "closed lacing".  A Loafer is similar in appearance to an Oxford, but is a slip-on shoe.  A type of slip-on is made with side gussets (sometimes called a dress loafer). Made in the same shape as lace-up Oxfords, but lacking the laces, these shoes have elasticated inserts on the side which allow the shoe to be easily removed but remain snug when worn. In summary, the Oxford is technically not a slip-on shoe.  That would be a Loafer.
