Cashmere is typically more expensive than most other types of wool.  This fabric is fine and luxurious.

What is the difference between wool and cashmere?  Cashmere is a type of wool. But it is regarded is very fine and soft wool which is made for cashmere goat hairs.  The best quality cashmere comes from the longest and finest hair closest to the skin of the goat, preferably on the underbelly and neck regions. In brief cashmere is luxurious wool.

The clothing and fashion accessories produced with cashmere is generally more costly which has to do with the quality & availability of the fiber.  Clothes made from cashmere are up to 8 times warmer than clothes made from sheep wool, despite being a lot lighter in weight.  To be considered genuine cashmere, the diameter of each fiber must be less than 19 microns, with the smaller fibers, which measure approximately 14.

Not all fibers from the Cashmere goat are considered cashmere under the Wool Act. Under the Act, the term “cashmere" can be used to identify fiber content only if:

  1. the fiber consists of the fine (dehaired) undercoat fibers produced by a Cashmere goat (capra hircus laniger);
  2. the average diameter of the cashmere fiber does not exceed 19 microns; and
  3. the cashmere fibers in the wool product contain no more than 3% (by weight) of cashmere fibers with average diameters that exceed 30 microns.

When thinking about gloves, it is important to also consider "down" for warmth, but if comparing many of the varieties of wool compared to cashmere wool, the cashmere gloves are finer.

A glove is a covering for the hand worn for protection against cold or dirt and typically having separate parts for each finger and the thumb.  Learn more about gloves in our fashion products section.

Cashmere wool, usually simply known as cashmere, is a luxury fiber obtained from cashmere goats and other types of goat.  Gloves made from this fiber are cashmere gloves.  Women enjoy this fabric because of its high quality and soft hand.  The “hand" of a fabric refers to the “feel" of the fabric against your skin.

Are mittens gloves?  Gloves which cover the entire hand or fist but do not have separate finger openings or sheaths are called mittens. Mittens are warmer than other styles of gloves made of the same material because fingers maintain their warmth better when they are in contact with each other.  Reminder, a glove "typically" has separate parts for each finger.  They do not "always".
