The Romney, developed in England's Romney Marsh region to withstand cold, wet conditions, was imported into the U.S. in 1904. They are a medium-sized, white-faced breed with wool extending on the legs. They are good mothers with average or better prolificacy and milking ability and produce a coarse, long-stapled fleece that is well suited for spinning.
