MILLER GIRL @ NICOLE MILLER : Wednesday, 29 October 2003

Although many have wondered about the relevance of visiting designers showing during Fashion Week LA, in many minds the Miller Girl presentation on Wednesday night was pure California.  Not only does this diffusion brand signal a veritable rebirth at corporate headquarters, the safari-rock-chick spring lineup was ultimately wearable and relevant to our West Coast lifestyle.  High quality polished cottons and European coated linens anchored the show, while washed out camo prints, clever balloon drawstring details, and hook and eye closures provided the au courant themes.  This was relaxed sportswear with sweet, sexy details and a sophisticated point of view.

Clearly garnering a new audience for her label, Nicole's micro minis and super low waist olive drab pants would certainly filter out most of her ready-to-wear customers.  Yet, her witty tee shirts with novelty shipwreck silkscreen were a house signature as was the logo-striped bikini.

Evidencing her long history with couture and exquisitely drawn details, she launched subtle sailor references throughout the show, including a dramatic rope tie and oversized grommet (which became shoulder straps and bikini ties in several places).  If your ship set sail and marooned on a desert isle, you'd certainly wish you packed Miller Girl.
