Carpenter Pants - good to have extra pockets & loops.
Carpenter jeans are jeans with many pockets and loops which can be used to carry objects such as tools and are often loose around the leg to be able to accommodate the affixed items. Although they have many pockets, they are different than cargo pants. The carpenter pants have different types of pockets and also have loops to hold items such as a hammer. They are the perfect pant style for carpenters to wear.
As you have probably guessed from the name, this type of pant is often worn by carpenters and construction workers. This type of pant provides a method to carry their tools so that their hands can be kept free to work on various tasks. They can walk around with their hands free and at the same time the tools are still easily accessible.
Carpenter pants are usually made of blue denim or canvas material. The key is to use a fabric that is very durable. The color of these pants may vary but white, beige and blue are popular colors.
An easy way to identify carpenter pants is by the “hammer loop”. This type of loop is generally not on other types of pants. A 'hammer loop' is usually located on the left leg; although this was originally designed to be useful, most carpenters do not use the loop, because the hammer often falls out or bangs around the leg (you would have to ask a carpenter of you don’t believe me). Other features include extra pockets, sometimes located on the outer thighs, and extra rivets for durability.
Another feature that is often used on carpenter jeans is wider than typical belt loops, to accommodate a wider & thicker belt. Using a big belt is wise because of the extra weight of the tools being carried in the pockets and loops. Having a tightly cinched & wide belt helps support the weight of the tools being carried in or on the pants.
Most carpenter jeans are made for function. Although they have been worn as fashion at times, the primary purpose is for work. Therefore, they are generally manufactured to be comfortable yet sturdy as possible.
Not all clothing retailers carry this type of jean. If you can’t find them locally, you may want to shop on the internet to find a good assortment.
