POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Sales Associate EFFECTIVE DATE: 09/01/2005 DEPARTMENT: Banana Republic Field JOB CODE: 507 GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for generating sales by engaging and connecting with each customer to provide hallmark customer service. Utilize product knowledge to educate and inform customer and to build sales. Primarily serves as member of a Sales Work Center team but will flex and contribute to other Work Centers as directed by the MOD. Demonstrates Gap Inc. PVB in all actions and interaction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Completes all components of current sales associate training programs Recognizes verbal and non-verbal customer cues, and engages each customer based on those cues Connects with customers by asking open-ended questions to assess customer needs and makes relevant merchandise suggestions Stays current on all product knowledge and promotions and communicates features and benefits to customers to influence buying decisions Drives store sales by suggesting additional items to customers to meet their needs and wants Provides courteous and helpful service to customers in all areas of the store, including sales floor, fitting rooms and cash-wrap Assists customers in finding substitutions for out of stock items, or assists in finding those items in other stores Suggests Banana Republic Card to every customer, informing them of the features and benefits Treats all Banana Republic customers and employees with respect consistently and contributes to a positive work environment Upholds all company policies as outlined in Employee Policy Guide and Code of Business Conduct ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to one of members of the Leadership team Receives daily direction from Manager on Duty Creates teams and partnerships with all Work Center team members REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to acknowledge and greet customers by smiling, maintaining eye contact and welcoming them to the store. Ability to greet and engage customers while at the cash wrap. Ability to consistently service multiple customers. Ability to offer thorough product knowledge (i.e., fit, size, color, fabrication and care). · Ability to offer quick and efficient service to customers through teamwork and effective communication. · Ability to assess customers' needs for timely service and react accordingly. · Ability to recognize and react to customers' verbal and non-verbal cues. · Ability to learn customers' needs and wants through the use of relevant open-ended questions. · Ability to build sales by communicating product features and benefits to influence buying decisions. · Ability to drive sales by providing wardrobing advice and suggesting relevant additional items. · High school graduate or equivalent preferred. · One year of retail sales experience preferred. · Prior experience working within a team desired. · Ability to lift & carry 30 pounds. · Ability to maneuver around sales floor, stock room & store office This position description intends to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
