Lefteri, an author, designer, educator, and internationally-recognized authority on materials and their application in design, will educate workshop attendees on how to discover new materials to meet design and functional needs, as well as how to understand their aesthetics and usability. Lefteri will also demonstrate how to improve marketability and the production process, and will share insight on how to develop, design and resource products to be lightweight, eco-friendly, and innovative. Lefteri’s experience within the industry is immense, boasting recent clients such as ExxonMobil, Land Rover/Jaguar, Philips, Design Singapore, Samsung, Ciba and ASM International. His published books, including ‘Materials for Inspirational Design,’ offer ideas and motivation to both design professionals and students alike. “Materials resources are everywhere, loads of information, masses of amazing smart technologies, and an expanding world of sustainable alternatives. What are less well-developed, are methods for integrating these materials into the creative process,” said Lefteri. “If materials are the main ingredients to communication, emotion, and enhanced product performance, then this workshop is like a recipe from a great cookbook.” “Succeeding in any industry and staying ahead is all about innovation, and the footwear and accessories industry is no different. To achieve that desired market standout, designers and manufacturers must constantly search for the next big idea and this could come from industries outside of traditional footwear,” said Courtney Harold, show director, Materials at WSA Expo & Conference™. “Chris Lefteri’s knowledge of the myriad of material possibilities and insight into the design industry makes him the perfect speaker for this workshop. He will provide valuable, eye-opening information for all attendees who want to stay at the forefront of new material developments.” In addition to “Translating New Materials into Function,” Materials at WSA Expo & Conference™ will also host a two-part color trend preview workshop presented by color forecasting leader Pantone on July 28 and 29, and “The Future of Footwear Manufacturing in China” on July 28, which will provide an overview of the economic and political trends within China and U.S. relations. Materials at WSA Expo & Conference™ will also once again host its cutting-edge trend forecast area, which will reflect the direction of the new season by showcasing innovative materials from exhibiting suppliers. “Translating New Materials into Function” will take place at 2:00pm on July 29 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room N-101 and pre-registration can be completed online at www.materialsatwsa.com. Space is limited.
