Mount Vernon Mills recently created three new roles based on the expansion of its flame-resistant (FR) division. The company is pleased to announce the addition of Melanie Sumner as Development Manager of Protective Specialty fabrics, Ernie Terrell as FR Technical Specialist, and Craig Tutterow as Technical Director of FR fabrics. All three bring several years of experience in the industry.

Sumner's extensive background includes 17 years with Mount Vernon Mills, working in various departments of the finishing plant. In her new position, Sumner is tasked with research and development of technical and non-technical yarns and chemistry. She will work to create new fabrics and finishes.

Sumner has spent her entire career working in different branches of Mount Vernon Mills, where she has held several positions at plants in Ware Shoals, S.C., and Trion, Ga., including quality manager, greige goods coordinator and re-inspection manager, and product development engineer. Prior to her recent promotion, Sumner was the wet processing technical manager in the research and development lab. She graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Textile Engineering.

Terrell brings a notable 31 years of experience in the safety industry, as well as 15 years of involvement with apparel and fabric, to his new position at Mount Vernon Mills. Based in Houston, Texas, Terrell will concentrate on sales in the United States, with a focus on the Gulf Coast at the end-user level. Prior to this position, Terrell was in technical sales. Terrell is a graduate of Lamar University with an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Industrial Electronics.

Tutterow possesses an extensive background of 32 years of textile industry experience. He has worked in a variety of areas in the industry including dye chemistry and product development and engineering. In his new position at Mount Vernon Mills, Tutterow is tasked with providing increased technical development and control in the FR fabrics division.

Tutterow has spent his entire career working with fabrics and textiles, with an emphasis on the technical aspect. Prior to joining Mount Vernon Mills, he served as the senior product development engineer at TenCate. Tutterow graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Textile Chemistry.

"We are very excited to bring in such a wealth of knowledge and expertise with these three employees. The combination of Melanie's experience, Ernie's proven sales success, and Craig's technical expertise will prove significant as Mount Vernon Mills continues its success in the FR industry."
