March 2 to 5, 2009

The 16th edition of Montreal Fashion Week (MFW), a world-class fashion event held in collaboration with P&G Beauty, kicks off March 2 at the Bonsecours Market.  Given the current context, organizers are delighted to present one of the most stunning and powerful fashion weeks in recent history to some 15,000 local and foreign (from 5 continents) journalists and buyers expected to attend.  Over a four-day period, 25 renowned and up-and-coming designers will be showcasing their creativity, revealing the fashion trends that will mark the fall and winter 2009-2010 season.

Premier Canadian showing of the leading names in fashion

Adapting to the international fashion calendar by holding MFW earlier than usual, Sensation Mode was intent on scoring a coup by positioning itself in a highly competitive time slot at a time when buyers budgets and the international fashion industry's excitement are at their peak. To this end, MFW has more than its share of aces up its sleeve, including PHILIPPE DUBUC presented by Gillette, who will be launching this 16th edition with the opening fashion show.  He will be followed by other pillars of the Canadian fashion scene: Marie Saint Pierre, MUSE by Christian Chenail, ENVERS by Yves Jean Lacasse, RUDSAK (available at Eaton Centre Montreal) as well as Harricana by Mariouche and M0851 (available at Complexe les Ailes). Closing the event will be none other than Denis Gagnon, back from the Who's Next show in Paris, who will be presenting his latest collection at the Maison Fullum & Holt. MFW is also
the new faces of fashion: Bourgeoisie, Ralph Leroy and Ur Imij as well as designers who've already reached new heights, such as: a va de soi, Myco Anna, HELMER, Soa & Kyo, Dinh B Design, Bodybag by Jude & J.U.D.E. and De Shalla, not to mention the return of Telio's 2009 design competition.

Notable presence of menwear collections

New: menswear collections will be noticeably present at this 16th MFW.  Indeed, three fashion shows  those of PHILIPPE DUBUC, Ur Imij and Ralph Leroy will focus exclusively on collections for men.   Meanwhile shows by ENVERS by Yves Jean Lacasse, Dinh B Design and RUDSAK will present collections for men and women.

Backed by such high-profile corporate citizens as Eaton Centre Montreal, Complexe Les Ailes and Gillette, designers will enjoy greater additional promotional support, notes Jean-franois Daviau, co-president of Sensation Mode and producer of Montreal Fashion Week.  In order to produce an international event of the highest calibre, the support of partners sensitive to the cause of designers unquestionably allows us to deliver a Fashion Week that lives up to our expectations.

LE SHOWROOM, acclaimed by critics in 2008, returns for a 3rd edition

Its last edition meeting with unanimous acclaim from the Canadian press, we are proud to bring back Le Showroom from March 2 to 4.  This concept allows designers and designer-manufacturers to conduct business and forge commercial ties in ideal surroundings.  For this 3rd edition, 54 designers have been invited to present their collections on premises designed for exchanges and transactions unique to Montreal Fashion Week, one of the first in the world to implement this type of concept, which has now been adopted by other fashion weeks.  In addition, this year again, a series of specialized conferences on various targeted topics, will be offered free of charge to industry players,

Offering wearable fashions

Without bypassing the fashion greats or doing away with unbridled bursts of creativity, this 16th edition of MFW makes more than a little room for practical Haute Couture which, while highly creative, offers a form of stylistics likely to meet the concrete needs of today's professionals.  In fact, fashion and glamour are hardly foreign to day-to-day life, regardless of its luxury.  To the contrary, they are there to enhance it.

Two top-flight candidates retained by the selection committee

The selection committee of the 16th MFW consisted of Vania Aguiar, editor-in-chief of PURE magazine, Diane Charbonneau, Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Susan Langdon, Director of the Toronto Fashion Incubator, Bernadette Rey, anthropologist, consultant and professor at LaSalle College and the ESMM, and Franco Rocchi, Senior Vice-president, Sales and Marketing, Le Cheteau. The selection committee of the 16th edition of MFW retained two designers from a large pool of succession candidates.  In short, rare gems!  Designers selected to participate in this 16th edition are UR IMIJ and Ralph Leroy, who, for the first time, will get to showcase their breathtaking talent at a major event.

CIMM present Fashion Lunch

CIMM is proud to present: Fashion Lunch. CIMM will be showcasing the following Collections of Pret-a-porter and designers: Tricotto, Scapa by Lauren Perre, Alison Sheri, 172 Grams, Fulmine Shearling. 2009 Telio Design Competition Focus on Canadian fashion schools

As for emerging forces, we note the return of the Telio design competition for up-and-coming designers, which this year will allow five young designers to win one of five bursaries with a total value of $10,000 to be awarded to the grand winners of the 2009 edition. This highly popular event attracts participants from all of Canada's leading fashion schools.
