Skinnie Mag editorial on THURSDAYS AT SOCIAL says... "Its no wonder John Wayne was once famous for tossing billiard balls from the roof of the Hollywood Athletic Club at cars passing in the street below; it was the tallest building in the city when it originally opened its doors in 1924. The landmark structure was just what the name implied: gymnasium to the stars, or as it was often referred to, playground to the stars. It has since enjoyed a rich history of celebrity lore and mystique and in recent years was closed to the public. The Hollywood Athletic Club recently reopened as Social Hollywood, but still was available only to VIP members or for private events. In recent months Thursday nights became open to the public at the hands of Jenn Laskey; RedLight Promotions, Hayden Pacquing; PACQ Productions, Matt Gavin;Hardball Productions; JoeJoe Promotions, and Kevin Todd. To this day it is frequented by celebrities and Hollywood archetypes, although, Laskey Claims, "It's a Hollywood trendy club scene with beautiful people, but (there are) deeper, more interesting, and artistic types". The building has indeed been resurrected as one of the city's hottest night clubs featuring acclaimed DJs, several different rooms (each featuring a different style of music ranging from hip hop/R&B to funk, rock, and 80s) and a Moroccan themed bar/ultra lounge/restaurant. Laskey describes Thursdays as, "...the premiere artistic, trendsetting, and entertainment driven night" of Hollywood."
