Atlanta... Organized by Jarbas Pereira, Androgyny is a dazzling collection of costumes, showcased in a unique blend of dance, acrobatics and theater, creating a dynamic spectacle. “Androgyny” will be held at 7 pm on February 27, 2005, at the Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech, located at 349 Ferst Drive, NW Atlanta, GA 30332.

Prepare to be mesmerized by the glamorous ballroom and evening gowns as the dancers glide on stage. The mood evoked in this segment is one of playfulness and sexy naiveté. The two essential moods contrast and harmonize with each other. Everything is unquestionably feminine.

Among the featured attractions of Androgyny is a spectacular samba show that showcases hips, feet, and body movements, complemented by a flamboyant display of feathered costumes one after the other. In addition, you will experience Capoeira, a Brazilian Martial arts performance. In this self-defense fight, players move with the rhythm of the music and in connection with each other. In this segment, Jarbas Pereira launches his sportswear collection where all the garments are embellished with the JP silver signature.

Also with a pace that keeps the rhythm pounding and the dancers moving, come tap to the beat of the drums with a lavish Afro-Brazilian dance performance. This segment showcases a collection influenced by exotic feathers and dramatic silhouettes, both driven to the point of obsession.

“Feathers and Fabrics“ is an exhibit that features more than 50 works including life-sized costumes, drawings, illustrations, photographs, and a video by Designer Jarbas Pereira reflecting a career spanning more than one decade. The exhibit will be on display following the show at the Richards and Westbrook galleries located in the lobby of the Ferst Center for the Arts.

Tickets can be purchased for $25 and student with I.D. for $15 by contacting (404) 894-9600 or www.ferstcenter.org.
