During the 19th Clothing, Embroidery Machines and Accessories Fair held September 26-30th in Istanbul, Turkey, Gerber Technology sold more than $1.5 million in computer-aided design and manufacturing systems. In the last twenty years Gerber has sold more than $60 million in software and equipment to well over 700 customers. The company now boasts the largest installed base in the country with more than double the number of systems of its closest competitor. “The sold-out status of this show and the number of foreign attendees is a clear indication of Turkey’s ever-growing importance in the global apparel industry,” said James Arthurs, President of Gerber Technology, during attendance at the fair. “Turkey’s investment in automation during the last ten years has elevated the country to a pinnacle of quality and efficiency. It is now second only to Italy in supplying Europe’s apparel needs and is the fourth largest apparel exporter in the world, forecasting $9 billion in exports for this year.” For nearly twenty years Gerber Technology has operated through its agent, Glengo Tekstil Ticaret Ve Sanayi A.S., which maintains offices in the cities of Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, Adana and Ankara to manage the country’s sales, service and replacement parts activities. “Through the years Glengo has established a reputation for unparalleled customer service and support,” noted Arthurs. “Recently, we announced that one of our key strategic objectives is to be the leader in high growth markets. Turkey is one of these and we will do whatever it takes to continue to satisfy our many loyal customers throughout the country and maintain our leading market share here.” “Turkey has built its apparel industry on a solid foundation of cotton and textile production,” added Arthurs. “The fact that it is also a convenient land bridge to Europe makes it a clear beneficiary of the apparel industry’s continued migration from Western Europe. And we are well positioned to support Turkish companies that are already expanding into the Turkic Republics, Syria, Bulgaria and other neighboring countries.”
