A lorry is an expression for

  1. a truck
  2. an open railroad car with a tipping trough, often found in mines
  3. The word originally meant a sort of heavy horse-drawn wagon. This is an obsolete usage.

The word may have originated as the personal name "Laurie", which is short for "Lawrence".
