Shopko was a chain of retail stores based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Shopko has been dedicated to providing customers with quality merchandise and services at prices that communicate value since 1962. To date, Shopko has grown into a family of more than 130 specialty discount stores focused on customer lifestyles and meeting our customers' changing needs for casual apparel, home, family and healthcare products.

Date Milestone

2019 On January 16, 2019 Shopko filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.  Chapter 11 is a chapter of Title 11, the United States Bankruptcy Code, which permits reorganization under the bankruptcy laws of the United States.

2007 - 2012 Shopko operated Pamida as a separate division until 2007, when Pamida was separated from Shopko and reestablished as a separate company. In 2012, Shopko and Pamida merged into one company. Shortly after, most Pamida stores were rebranded as Shopko Hometown.

Shopko, headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, has two divisions: Shopko and Shopko Express Rx. They employ more than 16-thousand teammates in 13 states, in more than 135 stores, generating annual sales exceeding $ 2.2 billion.

Shopko, founded by pharmacist James Ruben. opened Shopko's first store in Green Bay in 1962, he envisioned a company focused on: quality, convenience and value. He saw the opportunity to combine health care services with a large discount store. Shopko became one of the first mass retailers to feature pharmacies and eye care centers.

In 1991, Shopko Stores Inc. became a publicly-held, independent company with stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "SKO". In December of 2005, Shopko Stores, Inc. was purchased by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. and no longer is a publicly-owned corporation.

Private label brands are included: Bailey's Point, NorthCrest, Energy Zone, Soft Sensations, Soon to Be, Green Soda.
