Children's Warhol Festival, Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, Calvin Klein, Annie Leibovitz, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Norma Kamali and More.

At 92Y, nothing comes between you and your Calvins – or your Kabakovs or your Diana Balmoris. We're looking at design, photography, contemporary art and fashion this fall and throwing in a tour of one of New York's most impressive buildings for good measure. And if you're interested in more than talking, we offer art tours (geared to painters and jewelry-makers) and workshops with visiting artists as well. Last but certainly not least is the 92Y Warhol Children's Festival, a unique opportunity for kids to see Warhol paintings and then make their own using the same techniques. The Festival is for kids – but bring a beard and come check it out yourself!

Tue, Sep 6 – Tue, Oct 4 – Exhibit

Sat-sun, Sep 10-11, 17-18, 24-25, 12-4 pm – Workshops

92Y CHILDREN'S WARHOL FESTIVAL

This September you can get more for your kids than just "15 minutes of fame" – you can bring them to 92Y to see Warhol's art and create their own. Thanks to the generosity of the Mugrabi Collection, we're exhibiting 80 original paintings that Andy Warhol created in 1983 especially for children. The paintings – colorful, strong images of trains, toys, apples and the like – will be hung low on the walls, at a level comfortable for young viewers. But art doesn't just hang on a wall – so you can sign your kids up for weekend workshops where they'll use some of the same techniques and principles that Warhol used – silkscreening, making patterns with rubber stamps – to transform the ordinary into…art! Art in Context with Sir Norman Rosenthal | ILYA AND EMILIA KABAKOV

The most important Russian artist of the late 20th century, Ilya Kabakov's work has ranged from children's book illustrations in the Soviet Union to installations and environments that incorporate everyday objects and abstract ideas. He worked outside of the USSR's official art system and emigrated to the west in 1987. He began working with Emilia in 1988 and the two married in 1992. While their work is a commentary on post-stalinist Russia, it also speaks to the problems and feelings of people everywhere. The Kabakovs talk with Sir Norman, the Exhibitions Secretary at London's Royal Academy of Arts for 30 years and a leading advocate of then-new painters like Anselm Kiefer and Georg Baselitz and the curator of the controversial "Sensation" exhibition in 1997.

Art in Context with Sir Norman Rosenthal | JAKE AND DINOS CHAPMAN

When the Chapmans took remodeled plastic figures and used them to recreate images from Goya's "Disasters of War" etchings, they staked out their claim as the enfants terribles of the British art world. Their stock in trade is the offensive, the vulgar and the distressing, and their art has drawn on watercolors by Adolf Hitler, sex dolls, mannequins of children, skulls and more. They talk with Sir Norman, who featured them in his landmark exhibition Sensation in 1997 and who was the Exhibitions Secretary at London's Royal Academy of Arts for 30 years.

It's a record of places that Leibovitz simply wanted to visit for herself – not professionally, but personally. Among the places she felt it important to visit were Emily Dickinson's house, Niagara Falls, Sigmund Freud's last home in London, the Spiral Jetty and more. Find out where Leibovitz's own dreams and wishes took her.

Dialogues with Design Legends | DIANA BALMORI with PETER REED

Landscape design isn't just about putting some trees and flowerbeds in place. For Balmori, it has everything to do with public space, fluid connections between manmade structures and nature, sustainable systems, alleviating pollution, handling storm water and developing green roofs as a vital "fifth façade." And in turn, all that has to do with her research and writing on the environment, the history of design and the sociology of cities. She's innovative, and her wide-ranging intelligence touches everything she speaks about. 92Y has invited the Museum of Modern Art's deputy director of curatorial affairs to interview her.

Tue, Nov 29, 8:15 pm, $29

Dialogues with Design Legends | JAKOB TROLLBÄCK

The result would be Jakob Trollbäck, who started acclaimed firm Trollbäck and company and whose lush style has flowered in branding, motion graphics, film title sequences, advertising and music videos for clients like CBS, Nike, Infiniti, HBO, Target, Jaguar, Miramax, Volvo and more.
