Impregnated with linseed oil, the sailcloth made incredibly tough, all weather clothing,which was soon adopted by farmers and drovers, as projection against the island's wet climate. These days Backhouse coats and jackets are classics, as tough as they ever were, but made by rather more sophisticated methods. They're fashioned from the finest 100% long staple Egyptian cotton, closely woven and oil impregnated to a traditional formula, which provides totoal wind and waterproofing, exceptional abrasion resistance and greatly longevity. And now, as then, they're all made in New Zealand.
