: The Fashion Design Program is an idea-driven, craft-based course of
study that emphasizes design concepts and skill development. The goal is to
produce designers of daring originality who are willing to explore across
disciplines and contribute to fashion as an aspect of modern art and culture.
Students gain technical expertise in pattern making, sewing, draping, and
fashion illustration and learn the visual and verbal communication skills
necessary for success in all aspects of the global field. They develop creative
solutions to the challenges of sustainability by designing and manufacturing
fashions that respect the environment and preserve native cultures. Graduates
are innovators with excellent skills; they have the ability to do well while
doing good. The program culminates with the creation of individualized senior
collections and exit portfolios as well as a group runway fashion show in the
spring.

The LA Fashion District spans 90 blocks and is the hub of the apparel
industry on the West Coast. Retailers, wholesale buyers, designers,

designer showrooms, or a shopper on the prowl for a bargain - it's all here:
apparel and accessories for the entire family, textiles, flowers, even
live/work lofts. To ensure that your visit to the LA Fashion District is as
rewarding as possible, LA Fashion District property owners, a coalition of
nearly 600, contribute over $3 million annually to support the LA Fashion
District Business Improvement District (BID). The LA Fashion District BID is
a non-profit organization, dedicated to making the community a clean, safe
and friendly place to work, shop, do business and live through maintenance,
security and marketing programs. Launched in January, 1996, the LA Fashion
District BID was the first BID in Los Angeles. A
15-member Board of Directors, consisting of LA Fashion District property
owners, administer the management of the BID. A seven-member management team
directs the day-to-day operation of BID programs and serves as a liaison for
law enforcement, industry associations and city government. The LA
Fashion District BID covers 90-blocks in downtown Los Angeles. General
boundaries are from 7th Street to the north, Santa Monica Freeway to the
south, Spring and Main Streets to the west and San Pedro Street to the east.

Textile Association of Los Angeles : Textile Association of Los Angeles (TALA) is a membership-based group of professionals engaged in textile sales, manufacturing, related products and services to the apparel industry. The association provides education, networking opportunities and resource information services locating textiles, related products and services within the apparel industry. The association provides services through its office, annual directory, and numerous networking events and opportunities, to members and the wider fashion (apparel) community.
