Deeply rooted in his trademark punk sensibility, John Sakalis showed a collection for Spring 2004 that was fragile, feminine, slashed and ravaged. Inspired by the struggle and beauty of the female spirit, John designed this collection as a personal homage to his nurturing, older sister.

Using a tropical palette of sun-drenched sherbets and deconstructed, washed out striped chiffon, John draped his models in diaphanous shreds and sent them tumbling out onto the catwalk against a backdrop of hardcore, explicit rap. Batwing sleeves and ribbed tracksuit waistbands were borrowed from the 80's, while unraveled bias cut knits and belted minis were decidedly Now. Raw seams, shredded hemlines and bias construction continue as mainstays of John's aesthetic and serve well to balance the often-traditional fabrics he chooses.

A well-organized publicity team ensures a loyal following with Marisa Ramirez, Nikki Hilton and RuPaul among them. John's Goth-inspired tartan collection for Fall 2003 was a sold-out success and is available at Rojas on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
