Tolland, Connecticut, U.S.A. – France’s Carrefour, the second largest retailer in the world, and the largest in Europe, has adopted Gerber’s WebPDM, Artworks Studio and Pattern Design 2000, products to simplify and accelerate the digital transfer of data with their contractors, suppliers and retail partners around the world. The purchase has resulted in a total of well over 100 software licenses. Carrefour serves approximately 2 billion consumers in about 9,000 stores in more than 31 countries throughout three geographic zones and earns about $65 billion in annual revenue. A large percentage of the company’s sales are apparel, sourced mostly from Eastern Europe, Turkey and Asia, including China. While the company’s outlets are located predominantly in Europe, they also have a respectable presence in Asia and Latin America. “Our goal is not to go offshore for cheap labor,” noted Vincent Mercier, General Manager of the Merchandise and Marketing Group at Carrefour, “but to move towards a collaborative supply chain integrating all of our various sources for products worldwide.” According to Loick Le Moigne, Area Sales and Partnerships Manager for WebPDM in Gerber’s Europe West Region, “Under the advice of Deloitte and Touche, Carrefour was searching for a suite of products that would enable them to to seamlessly transfer data from conceptual and pattern design systems into a product data management system. They wanted to be able to track costing and product specifications easily and accurately and communicate all of this information to their partners.”
