femme, Advanstar Communications' fashion trade show, held May 8-10, 2002 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York, was a great success. With over 9000 domestic and international attendees and a large number of new resources, the show concluded its three- day run with much praise from exhibitors and retailers alike.

The first day of the show opened at 11am with a bevy of retailers ready to conduct business. "The show got off to a great start," commented Erica, from Yak Pak. "We wrote non-stop all day."

The new look of the show also garnered much praise. "We knew the changes we implemented would have a positive effect on the May show," said Deborah H. Baum, General Manager of Advanstar Communications' East Coast Fashion Group. "The response was overwhelming. On the day femme opened, we had non-registered vendors asking if we could find them space."

The excitement continued with the newly introduced seminar series. On the first day, femme introduced a plus-size panel with eight industry experts who addressed the enormous potential of the plus-size market. Panelists agreed that with all the progress that's been made, there's still much room for improvement, including different body types to address.

On day two, taking a journalistic approach, Leon Hall, host of E! Entertainment's Fashion Emergency presented highlights in colors, trends, silhouettes and fashion-fixes for Fall 2002 featuring collections from femme exhibitors. The day ended on a high note with a cocktail party and the coveted femme PROFILE AWARDS.

The awardees at the ceremony co-hosted by femme and Leon Hall were: Best Exhibitor Booth - Mighty Fine Special Effects Award - Lobe Strobe from Flipo Best Dressed Male - Freddie Rojas designer for Private Clothing Best Dressed Female - Judy Lee Cole from Judy Lee Cole Most Innovative Show Item - MPG Accessory Profile Award - Mary Ann Restivo Menswear Profile Award - Private Clothing Womenswear Profile Award - Ravel

Business continued throughout the three days. Joey Lionetti from Select Showroom who represents David N Goliath, Hustler and DrunknMunky, was impressed with how much business he did. "We had a phenomenal show. I saw all my buyers in three days and opened or re-opened 70 accounts."

On the morning of the third day, Lisa Mainardi, Director of the American Trend and Color Committee offered femme attendees and exhibitors a jump-start on spring by presenting the trends for Spring 2003 including color, fabric, texture, print, style and silhouette.

For the femme team, it is back to work preparing for an even stronger show on September 22-24 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. For information to exhibit please call 888.964.5100. For information to attend, please call 877.554.4834
