Shay Todd                  LA Fashion Week October 2004

Chasing the endless summer from tropical islands to North African ports, Shay Todd presented a drop-dead collection of barely-there swimwear including remarkably sexy 1-pieces with provocative keyhole details and flattering rouching.  A sophisticated palette of violet, mauve, metallics and terracotta got a dose of bling-bling with gold coins, chain straps and sparkly sequin trim.

New to the collection this season was a group of après-sol separates, sequined boybeaters, boyshorts, elegant embellished caftans and Lurex drawstring cover-ups.  Signature classics like French terry hoodies and sweats are enduring staples for this line, but the impulsive babydoll ruffle looks were overtly boudoir.

The standing-room-only crowd, no doubt tempted by the publicist’s promise of “very little clothing, beautiful women and one special evening,” drew buyers, press and emerging rap stars alike.  Front-row divas included Carmen Electra and FOX Weathergirl Jillian Barberi.  As soon as the lights went down, they were rocking to the seductive, custom-recorded beats (including the debut of Kansas Cali’s “Hello World) and enthusiastically applauding the scanty lineup.  This crowd came to groove, see skin and dream of summer – and they got what they came for!
