The organizers for BC Fashion Week announced that the Spring/Summer 2006 fashion week will take place September 27th to October 2nd, 2005, at the Performance Works Theatre on Granville Island in Vancouver, Canada. Building on their successful first season, designers are invited to apply to participate commencing July 20th, 2005, with a deadline for applications set for August 15th, 2005. Anticipating applications from across BC and Canada, Executive Creative Director Vladimir Markovich stated, "It is exciting to play a role in showcasing the diversity of design talent within the Canadian apparel industry."
"Choosing this venue will again provide the black box to highlight what we are all anticipating....excellence in Canadian design," continued Markovich.
With elevation of Canadian design both within Canada as well as internationally a primary focus, BC Fashion Week will expand their initiatives through partnering with other international fashion weeks and international associations and organizations to promote Canadian designers. Fashion Weeks of other countries such as Prague and Greece have extended invitations to Canadian designers through BC Fashion Week. With a goal of reciprocal support, Canadian designers have unique opportunities to participate as a guest representative of the Canadian apparel sector.
In addition to 20 collections being presented over 5 days, BC Fashion Week announced the addition of their Designer Development Series. "The first day of fashion week will be a full day series of seminars focused the dynamics of trends, production, marketing and export readiness" stated Debra Walker, Executive Director BC Fashion Week.
"BC Fashion Week is proud to work alongside Promostyl -one of the largest global trend forecasters- and Industry Canada, in delivering this education series. BC Fashion Week is focused on facilitating the Canadian Apparel sector through presentation of future trends in design. This series will be focused on skill development and trend direction for emerging and established designers, with emphasis on Fall / Winter 2006 and Spring/Summer 2007," continued Walker.
