The Spiegel Group announced that James B. Pekarek has joined the company as vice president, corporate controller. Pekarek, 32, will be responsible for corporate accounting, financial planning and reporting for The Spiegel Group. Pekarek will report to James Cannataro, executive vice president and chief financial officer.
"We are pleased to add Jim to our management team. With strong experience in both corporate finance and public accounting, he brings well-rounded financial and managerial expertise to The Spiegel Group," said Cannataro.
Pekarek joins The Spiegel Group from Montgomery Ward where he served as vice president of finance and corporate controller. Prior to joining Wards, he served as vice president and corporate controller of Outboard Marine Corporation. Pekarek also served as director of reporting and analysis for Alliant Foodservice and was in public accounting with Coopers & Lybrand for five years.
A certified public accountant, Pekarek earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Indiana University and is working toward a master of business administration degree at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management
