Par-Ex relocated to New Haven, Connecticut in 1927, and the business and the family grew together. Bernard's sons Marty and Elliot later influenced the company's direction profoundly: after the Second World War they saw a country entering rapid change and convinced their father to make shirts under their own label. In April 1949 Gant Inc. was born. The company still made shirts for other retailers, but its attention to detail won admiration, and people learned that the Gant symbol - a G in a diamond stamped on the shirt tail - guaranteed quality.
