Sparkling gowns — covered in sequins, crystals, or high-shine embellishment from neckline to hem — are for nights when blending in is not an option. The all-over shine creates a liquid-light effect as you move; in a ballroom, you will literally catch every eye in the room.
The key decision is sequin vs. crystal vs. metallic fabric. Sequins give playful, high-energy sparkle (prom perfect). Crystals give refined, expensive fire (gala perfect). Metallic fabrics give smooth, liquid shine without individual elements to snag or shed.
Run your hand against the sequin direction — quality sequins lie flat and smooth; cheap ones feel prickly. Check that sequins are individually stitched, not glued in rows (glued rows shed in sheets). Sit down in the fitting room: all-over sequins can be uncomfortable for long dinners, so consider your event's sit-to-stand ratio.
Head-to-toe sparkle means accessories go quiet: simple metallic sandals, a plain clutch, minimal jewelry. Let the gown do 100% of the talking. Hair up shows off the neckline; just beware dangling earrings catching on sequined shoulders.
Never fold — sequins crease and crack. Hang in a breathable bag with nothing pressing against it. Spot clean only, and warn any cleaner about the embellishment type. Inspect after wearing; replace lost sequins promptly to avoid visible gaps.
