Dunn's longevity rests on a service approach its record states plainly: the company does not use voicemail, so a caller always reaches a courteous person who will give information whether or not the sale is made. Free proofing and samples are offered on confirmed orders, supported by an in-house art staff working on both Mac and PC, and the company prides itself on matching and delivering PMS (Pantone Matching System) colors with same-day service.
Vertically, Dunn is more than a sew shop. It weaves and converts fabrics and tapes, casts metal (iron and brass ornamentation, with painting and machine finishing), and injection-molds plastic for toys, novelty items and accessories. Fabric stocks listed run from 96/56 polycotton broadcloth in hundreds of colors, 10 oz duck and 7.5 oz polycotton twill, through cotton percale, 200 denier nylon oxford, poplin, mesh polyester and knit terrycloth, to narrow fabrics: elastic webbing and braid, hook and loop, ric rac, polypro totebag webbing, tipped laces, fancy braids, elastic cord, filler cord twine and woven edge ribbon — with custom weaving of tapes and braids to any size and construction.
Aprons come screen printed and embroidered for advertising and promotional logos, restaurants and BBQ, employees and vests, marketing events, and nail and carpenter aprons, sold alongside baseball caps, T-shirts, printed wood carpenter pencils and yardsticks. Tote bags — also screen printed and embroidered — cover grocery bags in stock and custom sizes and colors, mesh totes, bank bags, burlap shopping totes, book bags, boat totes, fanny and wrist packs, hardware and parts bags such as mason's tool bags, drawstring bags and large and small duffles.
Flags and banners are a specialty of their own: decorative house and garden flags, custom logo flags, banners and table covers, giant-sized American flags up to 40 by 60 feet (American flags are made from 4 inches to 60 feet, for all 50 states and the countries of the world), transport "Wide Load" banners, construction flagman and warning signs, lumberyard danger flags, in-store locator and special event banners and boulevard pole banners. Hats include stock and custom baseball caps, safety orange DOT hats and fancy cloth hats, while logo uniforms cover uniform shirts, denim and custom-made T-shirts, golf shirts, jackets, tunics and smocks — with dropcloths and paint sundries besides.
Decoration services include screen printing from 1 to 8 colors, large-format screen printing up to 6 by 10 feet, sublimation and digital printing, embroidery and digitizing, screen printed transfers, and appliqué work for flags, banners and tablecovers. Distribution fulfillment, custom packaging, die cutting and catalog mailing are offered as finishing services, along with custom covers and tarps, OEM equipment covers, industrial bags, safety items, danger flags, transport and highway signs and ANSI safety vests.
Dunn also works on the customer's fabric or its own: loops on paper, slitting vinyl film, spaghetti cordedge in single, double and triple forms, pleating and ruffling, crystal and knife pleating, heat and glue lamination on one or two sides, single-needle and multi-needle tucking, steamed skirt pleating, crochet edging, belt loops, trapunto-filled multi-needle stitching, smocking, die and table cutting, pattern making, baby hemming, rerolling as wide as 200 inches, elastic shirring and non-woven slitting, with fast turnaround and pickup and delivery in Metro Los Angeles.
