The Company Description of Its Time

This page is kept as a dated corporate history, because nearly everything in it has an end date. Nine West Holdings name changed to Premier Brands Group. The Nine West brand was sold to Authentic Brands Group. Nine West Holdings was formerly The Jones Group and Jones Apparel Group. Those three sentences at the head of the historical record are the whole story in miniature: a holding company whose name, brand and predecessor identity all changed within a few years, kept here with each change attached to its date so a researcher can follow the chain without guessing which name applied when.

The 2014 Split Into Six Companies

In 2014, Sycamore split Jones into six different companies: Nine West Group, One Jeanswear Group, Jones New York, the Kasper Group, Stuart Weitzman and Kurt Geiger. The Jones Group was renamed Nine West Holdings and became parent to Nine West Group and One Jeanswear Group. Later in 2014, Anne Klein, Easy Spirit and NW Jewelry Group were split into separate operating companies of Nine West. Read as a map, the split sorted a generalist apparel group into focused businesses: footwear under the Nine West name, denim under One Jeanswear, and established labels such as Jones New York, Kasper, Stuart Weitzman and Kurt Geiger standing as companies in their own right.

The routes on this page match that map. One link leads to the Jones Apparel Group filing in the J section, the predecessor identity under its earlier name, and another leads to Authentic Brands Group in the A section, the buyer who would later take the Nine West brand itself. A directory's job in a restructuring is exactly this: keep every name findable, state which name succeeded which, and let the linked profiles carry each continuing business forward, while the holding company's own page remains as the record of how the pieces were once assembled.

Bankruptcy, the Brand Sale, and Premier Brands Group

Nine West Holdings filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2018. In July 2018, the namesake Nine West brand, as well as the Bandolino shoe brand, were sold to Authentic Brands Group. Nine West Holdings emerged from bankruptcy in March 2019 and renamed itself Premier Brands Group. The sequence rewards careful reading: the brand and the holding company parted company before the holding company emerged, so from July 2018 onward the Nine West name on a shoebox and the company that once bore that name were different entities, a distinction this profile exists to keep straight.

That is why the page is kept rather than redirected. A shopper searching Nine West needs the brand's current owner, Authentic Brands Group, whose profile is linked here; a researcher tracing the Jones Group needs the predecessor and successor names with their dates, December 2013, the 2014 splits, April 2018, July 2018 and March 2019. Both needs are served by keeping this short ledger intact and dated, in line with the directory rule that closed and renamed companies stay as historical profiles. No store counts, product ranges or later developments are added, because the historical record records none.
