Spiegel recognizes that customers are as ageless as the brand, fulfilling their need to be drawn to the reliable, affordable, and effortless wardrobe building options that have and always will allow her to evolve with the trends of today and tomorrow without compromising her "signature style."
Spiegel Brands comforts the fashionable and dresses up the comfortable. The direct marketer's Spiegel, Newport News, and Shape FX catalogs and Web sites feature private-label women's clothing, footwear, and accessories designed to create easy style.
Spiegel mailed its first catalog to women across America in 1905, and just twenty years later, the fashion and furniture retailer had 10 million customers. As their desire grew for the latest fashions, Spiegel sent buyers to the Paris fashion shows - the first catalog to bring European trends to American homes. By the late 1970s, millions of women began their steps up the corporate ladder and Spiegel changed to meet their needs. Needs Spiegel is still meeting 100 years later.
Today, Spiegel has emerged as the idea resource for women who know that Spiegel means style. Tips from experts, celebrity stylist, and up-and-coming designers mingle with collections of versatile, unique apparel and functional, fashionable home products. Just as the American woman has changed over Spiegel's long history, so have they. But their commitment to filling her needs and wants, her dreams and desires, will never change.
Ever the innovator, Spiegel launched it's website in 1995, making at-home shopping even easier and more immediate.
In 2003, Spiegel filed for bankruptcy and reorganization under the bankruptcy code. The following year, a group headed by Golden Gate Capital Partners and Pangea Holdings Ltd., purchased the Spiegel and Newport News catalog businesses. At the same time, the reorganizing company retained its Eddie Bauer unit and eventually assumed the name. From 2004, Spiegel and the women's fashion catalog Newport News operated under the name Spiegel Brands, Inc. In 2008, Spiegel was sold to an investment group led by Granite Creek Partners. In June 2009, Spiegel became a Lynn Tilton company following its sale to the private equity fund Patriarch Partners, LLC, and is currently operated under the name Spiegel LLC, having done business from 2009-2012 as Signature Styles, LLC and Artemiss LCC respectively.
In 2012, the leadership at Spiegel was replaced. The creative direction of the company was shifted to focus on digital media.
