Prime Wardrobe & Personal Shopper (Historical Reference)

How Amazon's try-before-you-buy program worked, 2018–2023.

Historical reference: Amazon discontinued the Prime Wardrobe and Personal Shopper programs on January 31, 2023. This page is kept as a record of how the program worked.

What Was Prime Wardrobe?

Launched in 2018, Prime Wardrobe let Amazon Prime members try up to 8 clothing items at home for 7 days before deciding what to keep. Members ordered a box of clothes, shoes, or accessories, tried everything on at home, and only paid for what they kept — returning the rest with a prepaid label.

What Was Personal Shopper?

Personal Shopper was an add-on styling service for women’s and men’s fashion. Shoppers created a profile, took a style survey covering style, brand, fit, and budget preferences, and could submit one styling request per month. Amazon stylists then hand-picked items and notified shoppers by email and the Amazon Shopping app when their picks were ready to preview.

Why Did It Close?

Amazon shut down both programs on January 31, 2023, as part of broader cost-cutting across the company. The try-before-you-buy model carried high return-shipping and processing costs, and Amazon chose to focus its fashion efforts elsewhere.
