Size Chart & Conversion Tool

Convert women's clothing, men's clothing and adult shoe sizes between countries, and see the body measurements behind each size.

A US 8 is not an 8 everywhere. This Apparel Search tool lines up US, UK, European, Italian, French, Japanese and other sizes, shows the measurements typically behind each one, and lets you download the full chart for hangtags, spec sheets or an online size guide. It runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is saved.

How accurate is this? Shoes follow formulas. Clothing follows conventions. Shoe sizes in each system are mathematically linked, so those conversions are reliable to about half a size, though brands still differ. Clothing sizes are not defined by one international rule. They are commonly published relationships, and the published charts disagree with each other, so where they differ we show the range. Brand, fabric, cut and vanity sizing can move a garment by a size or more. Always check the brand's own size chart.

Why sizes don't match

Where the numbers come from. Shoe conversions use the formulas above. Women's and men's clothing use commonly published conversion relationships and body-measurement ranges from retailer size charts, and where two charts differ we show the range. Sizes at the very small and very large ends of the women's chart come from a single chart. Japanese sizes are approximate. Foot length shown for shoes is an estimate, since toe room varies. Brand-specific charts always take priority.

Working on a size run? Try the Size Grading Calculator and the Production Timeline Planner, or browse more apparel industry calculators from Apparel Search. Bras and children's sizing are complex enough to deserve their own tools, so they are not included here.

Estimates only. This tool is provided for general informational purposes. Results depend on assumptions that may not match a particular brand, product or person. Apparel Search does not guarantee accuracy or completeness. Confirm sizes with the brand, manufacturer or other qualified professionals before making purchasing or production decisions. How to convert clothing and shoe sizes

  1. Choose women's clothing, men's tops, men's pants or adult shoes.
  2. Pick a size you know and its system, or enter your measurements.
  3. Read the equivalent sizes, the measurements behind them and the size ladder.
  4. Download or copy the full chart for a hangtag, spec sheet or size guide.

How the conversions work, with examples

Shoes. The European size counts steps of 2/3 cm, the UK size counts steps of 1/3 inch, US men's is the UK size plus 1, and US women's is US men's plus 1.5. For example, EU 42 is UK 8, US men's 9 and US women's 10.5.

Clothing. These are conventions, not formulas, and published charts differ. In the women's chart this tool uses, UK 12 matches US 8, EU 40, Italian 44 and French 42. Always check the brand's own chart, because fit varies by brand and style.

Frequently asked questions

Why do clothing sizes differ between countries?

There is no single international rule for clothing sizes. Each market uses its own conventions, brands set their own fits, and vanity sizing has changed labels over time.

How do shoe sizes convert?

EU sizes count in steps of two thirds of a centimeter (Paris points) and UK sizes in steps of one third of an inch. US men's sizes are about one more than UK, and US women's about one and a half more than US men's.

Can I rely on a conversion chart for a specific brand?

Use it as a guide. Always check the brand's own size chart, because fit differs between brands, styles and fabrics.
