The Salomon family workshop opened in 1947. Originally wood saws and ski edges.  They then turned their attention to ski bindings.  In 1979 the Salomon alpine ski boots hit the market.  In 1992 Salomon ventured into summer sports with the launch of hiking shoes.

In 2001 the Raid Race was the first XA shoe on the market.  They also launched winter apparel the same year.

In 2005, AMER Sports acquired Salomon.

In 2015, Salomon launches Backcountry a range of mountaineering gear.
