(CMC) took place Monday, June
13, 2011 – Thursday, June 16,
2011, welcoming thousands of
retailers from across the globe
to SELECT Contemporary
Tradeshow, FOCUS Apparel &
Accessories Show, TRANSIT LA
Shoe Show and hundreds of the
CMC's permanent showrooms.
Retailers arrived in surges,
forming long lines at
Registration over the Market's
four days, which also hosted a
packed F2 Runway Show, Opening
Night Cocktail Reception and
array of buyer perks. Richard Barnard, a buyer for JMR Chalk Garden & Lola Bella, was one of the many retailers who arrived at the CMC ready to write. "I bought a ton of Bindi style bracelets from Mindy Lubell on 10A and handbags from Richard Aruj. I haven't missed a Show here in over 25 years." Additional retailers seen shopping the CMC included Fred Segal, Kitson, Planet Blue, Angel/wendy Foster, LF Stores, Belle Gray, Boulmiche, Firefly, Boogie's Diner (Aspen), Live! On Sunset, M Frederic & Co, Macys, Moondance, Nasty Gal, Nordstrom, Olive & Bette's, Piperlime, Saks Fifth Avenue, JC Penney, Harari, Harley-davidson, Harah's Entertainment-retail Division, DNA Clothing, Ideeli, Jacks Shoes, Jigsaw, Lissa Michelle-brentwood Country Mart, Marshall Retail Group, Ojai Valley Inn, Pacific Trading Co, Philippe Derey, Villian's, Ambiance, Pacific Sunwear,Tootsies, TJ Maxx, Damiana Boutique (Mexico City), Faceaward (Tokyo), FFG Platinum (Athens, Greece), Garbo de Greta (Panama), I-style Inc (Tokyo), Kai Lani (Tokyo), Kokoro By Wako (Minato-ku), Premier Shoes Unlimited (Hong Kong), Vincent Park (Vancouver) and many more. To celebrate Market, retailers crowded the CMC's lobby for a lively Opening Night Cocktail Reception Monday, June 13, 2011. The party featured complimentary cocktails from Hypnotiq and Frey Wine, hors d'oevures, live DJ and a raffle whose generous proceeds benefited the Downtown Women's Center. Items up for raffle included a dress by SELECT exhibitor Twinkle by Wenlan, boots by TRANSIT exhibitor The Frye Company and jewelry by FOCUS exhibitor Mon Bijou. One of the busiest locations during Market was SELECT Contemporary Tradeshow, showcasing a juried selection of upscale contemporary brands. SELECT took place Monday, June 13, 2011 - Wednesday, June 15, 2011, in the Fashion Theater and featured Pour La Victoire, Poleci, Bella Luxx, Twinkle by Wenlan, Deepa Gurnani, Sam Edelman, Minnie Rose, Boutique 9, Gorjana, Sophie Monet Jewelry, Royal Plush, Magaschoni, Joan and David and many more. SELECT show sponsors included Urth Caffé Downtown, Vita Coco, GlamGlow and POP Beauty. Lisa Silverstone of Bella Luxx, a first time SELECT exhibitor, was thrilled with the retailer turnout. "This Show was phenomenal. Our brand was extremely well received and we made some amazing sales." New York based cashmere line Minnie Rose also met with a steady stream of West Coast boutiques from Los Angeles, Palm Desert and Sonoma, including Planet Blue. "We were non-stop busy this entire Show," said sales rep Vanessa Rojas. "We did some amazing business and will definitely be back." Dale Pike of Deepa Gurnani added, "The traffic at SELECT was unbelievable. I didn't take one break the first day and met with accounts from territories I don't usually hit such as Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. Buyers were interested in all my accessories categories too which resulted in good quality orders." In the CMC's 13th floor Penthouse, FOCUS Apparel & Accessories Show and TRANSIT LA Shoe Show both took place from Monday, June 13, 2011 – Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Emerging designers exhibiting at FOCUS included Frenzii, Sweet Lola, N…P, Lucy Love, Sonas Denim, Jill Joanne, Mystree, Mon Bijou and many more. Additionally the F2 Runway Show kicked off FOCUS Monday June 13, 2011 at 12:00pm and featured brands such as FOCUS exhibitor Zuur Jeans, SELECT exhibitor Jewel Wraps and Annie & Jade by Annie Le to name a few. Complimentary cocktails were served by Mascarade Liquor, as well as Honest Tea Iced Teas, which were the exclusive drink sponsor for both FOCUS and TRANSIT. "The Runway Show was great for us," said Candice Holmes of Zuur Jeans. "It generated a great buzz and brought in a significant amount of buyers." The B-wing of the Penthouse (13th floor) hosted TRANSIT LA Shoe Show, showcasing hundreds of contemporary shoe collections including Jeffrey Campbell, Irregular Choice, Report Signature, DV by Dolce Vita, Steve Madden, Kelsi Dagger, Matiko, Gee Wawa, All Black, Vince Camuto, Jessica Simpson, L.A.M.B., Badgley Mischka, Donald J Pliner, The Frye Company, Seychelles, Calvin Klein and many more. "We had a good Show," said Lionel Oliveira of The Frye Company. "We saw a steady stream of buyers each day including Sole Mates in Colorado, JMR Chalk Garden and Hideaway Golf Club and opened several new accounts. Our newly launched handbag extension also did well." "We have been seeing a steady increase in overall attendance at our Shows this year," said Audrey Okulick, CMC Spokesperson. "The surge of retailers that shopped our building reflects an exciting upswing in the Market."
