ALVIN VALLEY: Sunday, 26 October 2003

Gisele Zelauy, Creative Director for Alvin Valley, began his show with signature bootleg trousers and the deep plunging waistbands that have garnered such a loyal body-conscious following.  Digressing to jeanswear casuals, he repeated these silhouettes in classic denim, paired with brocade overcoats and military-inspired shirting.

But that's where the formula ended.  What followed was a perfect capsule wardrobe of polished, urban pieces that every modern woman desires for spring.  Pulsating to the big punked out beats of legendary DJ Junior Vasquez, models flashed their dark kohl-rimmed eyes and flaunted Swiss eyelet corsets, pencil skirts with hip-defining pintucks and gorgeous matte jersey color-blocked gowns.

This was truly a surprising mix of dresses and separates - punctuated by tap pants, swimwear and all the sexy essentials for warm-weather getaways.

In the program notes, Gisele referenced his interest in developing as a tailor and it certainly showed. Bias cuts, corset details and big shoulders effortlessly interpreted Mugler for the California beach bunny.  This was a cohesive offering of most desirable, figure-flattering apparel with upgraded fabrics and very sophisticated styling.  Well done!
