Canada Goose was founded in a small warehouse in Toronto and has grown into one of the world's leading makers of luxury apparel - the historical profile's frame, and the arc its timeline then proves decade by decade. In the 1950's Sam Tick immigrated to Canada bringing a strong entrepreneurial spirit. In 1957, he founded Metro Sportswear Ltd., which specialized in woolen vests, raincoats and snowmobile suits. The company on this page therefore begins under a different name, making workaday cold-weather clothing; the famous label arrives with the next generation.
Dani Reiss, son of David Reiss and grandson of Sam Tick, joined the company in 1997 and in 2001 became President and CEO of Canada Goose. Dani ignited the company's growth and pledged to remain 'Made in Canada' - the commitment the rest of the timeline keeps documenting. In 2010, Canada Goose acquired a Winnipeg-based manufacturing facility to meet increased product demand and further solidify that commitment, and in 2014 it officially opened its Global Headquarters in Toronto, significantly increasing manufacturing capacity; the company was recognised by the federal government for employing 6% of the cut and sew labour industry in Canada.
The adventure record runs alongside the manufacturing record. Embracing Arctic adventure, Canada Goose partnered with musher Lance Mackey, who won the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest dog sled races four times each. The company, long the (un)official jacket of film crews everywhere it is cold, made its on-screen debut in 2004 with The Day After Tomorrow and National Treasure. In 2007 it joined forces with Polar Bears International (PBI) and launched the PBI Collection, with funds from every sale supporting polar bear habitat conservation; celebrating its 50th anniversary the same year, it published the first Goose People book, highlighting 50 people who embody the company's values. In 2009, two inaugural Canada Goose Resource Centres were established in the Canadian Arctic, providing free fabrics, buttons, zippers and other materials for Inuit sewers hand-making jackets and clothing for their families and community.
