In October 2024 the company ended its famous print catalog after some 170 years and cut 112 jobs, about 8% of its staff; in 2025 it moved its headquarters from Sunderland to a smaller building in Manchester, Vermont - the village where Charles Orvis founded the business in 1856 and where the flagship store still stands - and made further tariff-related cuts; and in October 2025 it announced the closure of 36 stores by early 2026, saying it would concentrate on fly fishing, wingshooting, guided experiences and conservation, and reach customers increasingly online and through its network of more than 550 independent dealers. The company remains private and Perkins-family owned, as it has been since 1965.

Orvis files itself as the longest-running mail order business in the United States, with its flagship retail store located in the same Vermont village as the historical record store since 1856, and says it offers experience and knowledge that no other retail company can. The mission statement kept here is to use that long history of customer satisfaction and quality products to provide the finest items and service available, without exception. Customers are invited to enjoy a life that expresses a deep appreciation for the natural environment, and the company acts on the same value directly: each year Orvis donates 5% of its pre-tax profits to conservation efforts nationwide, a figure quoted here exactly as recorded.
