The Company Description of Its Time

Textan Chemicals (P) Limited, of Textan House, 47 Fourth Avenue, Ashok Nagar, Chennai, built its textile business on the core competency it had achieved in enzyme production. Its textile division was started in 1996 to manufacture and supply desizing and stone washing enzymes, textile binders, cationic softeners, dye fixing agents and other textile auxiliaries - and, in its own account, carved a niche in that competitive field in short order on the strength of quality, timely deliveries and economic supplies. The product record filed here, posted in May 2007, is one of the few Indian-made lines of desizing and stone-washing enzymes of its time.

A Chennai Enzyme House, Since 1979

Textan Chemicals was founded in 1979 in Chennai, South India, and became a corporate body in 1982. Its founding task, in its own words, was stringent quality control - to give the tanning industry in India easy access to quality chemicals at a time when leather auxiliaries were not manufactured in the country. The export-oriented Indian leather industry became its first constituency, and the company records a long list of eminent customers who engaged Textan as a permanent supplier; the textile division of 1996 was a diversification from that leather base, not a starting point.

The wider Textan group ranged beyond both: infant foods, oleoresins, natural extracts and proprietary Ayurvedic medicines all appear in its own description. Trade coverage since reports that the Chennai chemicals business now trades under a new name - Tex Biosciences, based near Chennai, an ISO-certified maker of enzymes, preservatives, syntans and fatliquors for the tanning industry - and this profile's snapshot says plainly that the Textan name itself could not be verified as current.
