Fashion designers create original clothing, accessories, and footwear. They sketch designs, select fabrics and patterns, and give instructions on how to make the products they designed.  That is obviously just a small list of the many tasks fashion designers actually perform.  Some fashion designers not only manage the design of clothing, they literally run all the aspects of a fashion business.

The amount of money fashion designers make is dependent on many factors.  Obviously famous fashion designers, should make more money they an up and coming emerging fashion designer that has not yet proven themselves.

A salary is a fixed regular payment, typically paid on a monthly or biweekly basis but often expressed as an annual sum.  Payments are made by an employer to an employee.  Salaries in the fashion industry vary based on many factors.  Some of which include experience, skill level, relationship with the boss, previous successful projects, etc.

The average Chief Fashion Designer brings home $92K per year. The most common promotion for Fashion Designers is Senior Fashion Designer, a position that typically pays $88K annually. Another standard transition for Fashion Designers seeking advancement is to assume an Apparel Technical Designer role, where pay is often $53K.

Fashion Designer with mid-career experience which includes employees with 5 to 10 years of experience can expect to earn an average total compensation of $67,000 based on 414 salaries. An experienced Fashion Designer which includes employees with 10 to 20 years of experience can expect to earn an average total compensation of $75,000 based on 246 salaries.
