The Apparel Search Design Studio offers eight working services for fashion brands: technical drawings and renderings, concept and presentation boards, product art direction, product launch consultation, brand analysis, trend research and fashion reporting, fashion copywriting, and retail store planning.
The studio’s named service areas each have their own page. Start with any service:
Technical drawings and renderings are the studio’s drawing service. The studio renders technical drawings with all dimensions and the written instructions needed to produce a prototype, so a factory or sample room can work from the sheet rather than from a conversation. Alongside the technical work it produces high quality renderings and fashion illustrations suitable for scanning or faxing, the presentation-grade artwork a line is sold and reviewed with before any garment exists.
Conceptboards and presentation boards turn that artwork into a season’s argument. The studio develops targeted seasonal conceptboards / presentation boards specifically for each client: a representation of global inspiration through aesthetic references and emotional signifiers found in the worlds of fashion, home, sports and automotive industries. A good board does more than look attractive; it shows a buyer, a licensor or an internal team exactly which world a collection belongs to, and why it belongs there this season.
Product art direction covers how products are pictured. The studio provides photographic and illustration services for catalogues, and conceptualizes and art directs product-driven catalogue and marketing media, so the photography, the styling and the page all sell the same product story. For a catalogue-led business that consistency is the difference between a book that merely lists product and one that builds a brand while it sells.
Product launch consultation is the planning service for new and expanding lines. The studio develops and executes strategy for a startup or an accessory brand expansion, including the consumer profile, the pricepoint targets, the product assortment and the launch strategy itself. Those four pieces belong together: who the customer is decides what the product can cost, what the assortment should contain, and how and where it should be introduced, and a launch planned in that order avoids the common failure of designing first and finding the customer later.
Brand analysis is the studio’s research service for existing lines. It is an in-depth research of a client’s brand perspective and an evaluation of the product line, delivered as a report on the findings that highlights existing brand strengths and opportunities. The value of an outside analysis is distance: a team inside a brand lives with its assumptions daily, while a studio review can say plainly which parts of the line still carry the brand and where the openings are.
Trend research and fashion reporting keeps that judgment current. The studio shops Europe or specified US cities for key retail trends, then submits a report, compiles a media presentation, or personally presents the trends along with photographs. Shopping the stores rather than summarizing other reports matters, because retail floors show what buyers have actually committed to: the colors, silhouettes and price points that are already selling through, photographed where they hang.
Fashion copywriting is the studio’s words service. It creates copy for press releases, catalogues, marketing, newsletters and product collateral, and develops product names, descriptions, technical terminology and brand language. Naming and language work is easy to underestimate until a line reaches the market: a clear product name and a consistent technical vocabulary make a collection easier to sell, easier to reorder and easier to write about, season after season.
Retail store planning closes the loop between product and place. The studio develops thematic concepts for fashion retailers, and designs and executes the floor plan, fixtures, lighting and display systems for optimum presentation. The fuller treatment of that work, including fixturing, sits on the studio’s Retail Store Design page. If you have questions about any of these fashion design services, the route in is the studio’s pricing and contact form, and the service pages linked at the top of this page set out the consulting, trend, creative and product-development work in detail.
