Fight Gear from a Boxer's Company

Get'em Boy was founded by someone who knew fight sports from inside the ring. Lou Ramos is a former professional boxer whose titles include 4 Time Golden Glove Champion, 3 Time Mid-Atlantic Champion and 2 Time Pennsylvania Keystone Title Holder. He founded the company in 2002 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his wife Katina Ramos, and it is still run there. The product focus follows the founders: clothing and miscellaneous fight gear targeted at the mixed martial arts community, a sport whose apparel needs — durable training clothing, walkout gear and fan clothing — sit between athletic wear and streetwear.

The company also supports local community and fundraising opportunities, a natural extension for a fight gym culture in which local events, local fighters and local sponsors depend on each other. A brand rooted in one city's fight community can sell authenticity that a national label has to manufacture.

The 2008 MAGIC Launch

For its first years Get'em Boy grew locally. In August 2008, with the help of new partner Kevin Suarez, a private investor, and Paul Orji Agoha as president and CEO, the company launched its apparel line at The Magic Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the trade show where urban apparel buyers place orders. The line was warmly accepted into the urban apparel and fight gear industries.

Exposure on MySpace and articles in various magazines and websites built the audience further, and the company was featured in 2WheelTuner Magazine in February 2008, DV8 Magazine, Xclusive and Bully Magazine. That press pattern — music, motorcycle and urban titles alongside fight coverage — matches the crossover audience for mixed martial arts clothing, which is worn as much for identity outside the gym as for training inside it.
