The Company Description of Its Time

assyst/bullmer Inc. is the technology-and-machinery filing of this letter: the company develops and deploys CAD/CAM/PDM software, systems, machinery, solutions and services for the industries processing textiles - the Soft Goods Industries, which comprise apparel, upholstery, transportation interior, luggage, technical textiles and other textile products such as inflatables, aerospace, medical, outdoor, and stuffed toys and dolls industries. Its filed contact block reads: assyst/bullmer Inc., Address 5000 Aerial Ctr. Pkwy, Phone 919 467 2211, Email sales@assystbullmer.co.uk.

Software First: VIDYA, cad.assyst and the Web Services

The design end begins with 2D and 3D design software VIDYA for rapid prototyping, collection decisions, fit and tension control as well as virtual try-ons. Below it sits a MS-Windows based CAD product, cad.assyst, for automatic flat pattern engineering, grading and marking, combining a low entry level price with performance through smart.pattern technology. The web services offer significant cost savings, including automarker.com, described as the first on-demand pattern nesting solution, targeted to replace repetitive manufacturing processes, realize material savings of minimally 3% and directly link the globally dispersed participants in the supply chain. The mass customization product mtm.assyst follows the trend towards individualization, and pdm.assyst is the web based PDM solution for globally distributed manufacturing operations.

Read together, those five products map the pre-production half of a modern garment business: design it in 3D, engineer the pattern, grade and mark it, nest it online to save at least 3% of material, manage the product data across sites, and individualize where the market demands it. The Ace Apparel profile in this same letter - a pattern service bureau working in other vendors' CAD systems - is the service-side counterpart to this page's software-side offer, and the directory files them a few entries apart for exactly that comparison.

Then the Machines: Spreaders and Cutters

For the manufacturing sites, assyst-bullmer offers a complete line of automatic material spreaders for all types of materials and all kinds of manufacturing needs. The line of flatbed cutters starts with Premiumcut, a low ply flatbed cutter with a modular tool changing system for the widest variety of technical and conventional textile, woven and non-woven materials - its available tools include pneumatic and electrical reciprocating knives, drag knife, powered and unpowered rotary blades, ultrasonic knife, a high frequency welding tool, a grinding tool, punching tools and a suction device for cutting debris.

Above the flatbed sit the high ply cutters: Turbocut and Procut, suited to cut material stacks of 2.5 cm or 7.5 cm compressed under vacuum, and the Sirius 1000, which allows cutting stacks of up to 10cm compressed under vacuum. All cutters are equipped with a conveyorized cutting surface made of bristle tile. Those numbers - ply heights under vacuum, tool lists, conveyor surfaces - are the specification language machinery buyers actually use, and they are given in full rather than paraphrased into marketing copy.
