The Company Description of Its Time

Burberry Group plc is a British luxury fashion house, manufacturing clothing, fragrance and fashion accessories. Its distinctive tartan pattern has become one of its most widely copied trademarks. Burberry is most famous for its iconic trench coat, which was invented by founder Thomas Burberry. The company has branded stores and franchises around the world, and also sells through concessions in third-party stores. HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index (LSE: BRBY). That is the historical profile's summary entire, and it is an unusually complete one: product fame, trademark, distribution, royal recognition and market listing in five sentences.

Burberrys, the Haymarket and the Equestrian Knight

Burberry was historical descriptions name, but the company soon switched to using the name Burberrys, after many customers from around the world began calling it Burberrys of London; this name is still visible on many older Burberry products - a naming note this directory preserves carefully, because vintage buyers meet the 'Burberrys' label constantly and a names directory is exactly where its explanation belongs. In 1891 Burberry opened a shop in the Haymarket, London, which still exists and until recently was the site of Burberry's corporate headquarters; the headquarters are now at Horseferry House, just behind the Houses of Parliament, Westminster. In 1901 the Burberry Equestrian Knight logo was developed, containing the Latin word 'Prorsum', meaning forwards, and registered as a trademark.

The responsibility record the original preserves belongs to the same historical file: Burberry strongly believes that to be a great brand it must also be a great company, reflected in its pursuit of improved Corporate Responsibility performance across ethics, social and environmental responsibility and community investment. The 2009/10 highlights the profile lists include a 30% increase in visits to product suppliers' factories over the prior year, to 634; a Sustainability Leaders Initiative launched across the business; CO2 emissions from the Group's buildings reduced by a further 9% per turnover measure; and a commitment to purchase 29% of UK electricity from Combined Heat and Power and renewable sources in the 2010 calendar year. Those dated figures are kept with their year - they are the company's stated record for 2009/10, not a current claim.
