Every fashion company in the Apparel Search names directory that starts with B - 24 company profiles from Balenciaga and Barneys to Brooks Brothers, Burberry and the Business of Fashion.
Welcome to the B section of the Apparel Search Fashion Company Names directory. This hub lists and links every B filing: 24 company profiles, linked below in A-to-Z order. The letter is heavy with American department store history - Bealls, Belk, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's, Bon-Ton and the late Barneys - and equally heavy with heritage brands: Balenciaga, Benetton, Birkenstock, Brooks Brothers and Burberry between them span founding dates from 1818 to 1973 and four countries of origin.
All 24 B company profiles, A-to-Z by company name:
The range is the point of a names directory. Beside the famous houses sit the working infrastructure names a general search buries: Broder Bros., the largest imprintable sportswear distributor in its industry; the Better Cotton Initiative, the largest cotton sustainability program in the world; Business Journals Inc., whose juried trade shows filled the Javits Center; and BuzzFlikr, a Los Angeles fashion PR venture built on a bee colony. Two of the letter's shortest filings are among its most instructive - Bare Apparel, whose whole record is a closing date in 2011, and Brooks Running, whose whole record is a range of shoes and a creed about running.
Use the chip grid below as the letter's table of contents: one chip per profile, exactly once, in alphabetical order by company name. Two adjacencies deserve a word of guidance. Brooks Brothers (the 1818 New York clothier) and Brooks Running (the Seattle performance footwear company, a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary) are unrelated businesses that share a surname - the alphabet files them together and this directory keeps their records strictly separate. One name has no profile of its own in this letter - Banana Republic, whose filing lives under its parent in the G letter with the Gap Inc. brands; it is linked from this page.
The alphabet bar under the hero links to the other 25 letters and the numbers index. Links on this page also lead to the Fashion Company Names index, Fashion Jobs and Fashion News, and the Fashion Companies A to I list. This section of Apparel Search does not include all apparel companies; it is a select selection that grows periodically, and suggestions are welcome through the Add Your Company route in the footer.
Dated statements stay attached to their dates, and closed, acquired or renamed businesses stay as historical profiles - Barneys (Chapter 11, August 2019; name licensed to Saks), Bon-Ton (Chapter 11, February 2018), Brown Shoe (renamed Caleres in May 2015), Business Journals (acquired by UBM in 2016) and Bare Apparel (closed 2011) all remain in the directory, because the directory removes dead companies from shopping listings, never from history. Each profile includes a gallery of photographs.
If you know of an important fashion company beginning with B that is not listed in this section, you are welcome to make suggestions. Thank you for reviewing the Apparel Search guide to fashion by name - and if you prefer to browse by what companies make or sell rather than by name, the Clothes Guide and the shopping directory linked from this page organise the same industry by garment, audience and category instead.
A final orientation note: three pairs in this letter reward being read together. Bealls and Belk tell the Southern department store story from Florida and the Carolinas respectively; Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale's tell New York's luxury story at two different scales; and the Business of Fashion and Business Journals tell the industry's information story in two successive media eras. The hub's job is to make those pairings visible; the profiles themselves keep each company's voice, dates and claims in its own terms.
