Every fashion company in the Apparel Search names directory that starts with D - 20 company profiles from Danskin and Deckers to Dillard's, Donna Karan, Dr. Martens and DSW.
Welcome to the D section of the Apparel Search Fashion Company Names directory. The chip grid below is this letter's table of contents: 20 company profiles, one chip each, in alphabetical order - and an unusually mixed letter it is. Dancewear and denim finishing sit beside department stores; a maternity retail empire beside a menswear trade paper that closed in 2008; the world's most famous work boot beside a one-paragraph cross-reference stub. That mixture is the point of a names directory: it files the fashion industry under the names people actually look up, whether the name belongs to a manufacturer, a retailer, a publication, an institute or a software house.
All 20 D company profiles, A-to-Z by company name:
Three cautions are printed on this hub because the letter needs them. First, Delta Apparel and Delta Galil are NOT the same company - the Greenville, South Carolina activewear maker and the Israeli private-label manufacturer each carry the same warning in their profiles, and the two profiles cross-reference each other so the pair are never confused. Second, the Dickies page is a pointer, not a profile: Dickies' official name is Williamson-Dickie MFG. Co., and its company record is filed under W. Third, one name, dENiZEN, is a division of Levi's and is filed with the Levi's record in the L letter; it is linked from this page, even though it has no D profile of its own.
This letter holds more closed businesses than most, and profiles keep dead companies, honestly labelled with their dates; only directory listings drop them. So dELiA*s is filed with its December 7, 2014 Chapter 11 petitions and its reported back-to-school return of 2015; Destination Maternity with the Chapter 11 announcement of October 21, 2019 that heads its profile; Dress Barn with the May 2019 farewell notice announcing the wind-down of all its stores; and DNR, the Daily News Record, with its folding of November 20, 2008 and the absorption of its men's coverage into Women's Wear Daily. Renamed companies are treated the same way: Destination XL's profile states the February 2013 renaming from Casual Male Retail Group, whose own filing remains in the C letter, and Danskin's records its 2007 sale to Iconix and operation under DJM International.
The living filings are just as specific. Deckers is a portfolio built by dated acquisitions - Teva, Simple, UGG, Tsubo, Ahnu, MOZO, Sanuk. Dillard's is a founder's history from an $8,000 borrowed stake in 1938 to approximately 330 stores. Donna Karan's is a full biography, from Anne Klein to the seven easy pieces to DKNY. The Doneger Group sells forecasting and merchandising judgement from Seventh Avenue; Dassault Systemes sells the PLM software the industry designs in; Dyadic sells the enzymes that wash its denim; DKTE Society trains its textile engineers in Ichalkaranji; and Depop, the letter's youngest company, sells nothing but the marketplace itself. If you know of an important fashion company beginning with D that is not listed here, you are welcome to make suggestions.
